AKIRA UCHIKATA

Akira Uchikata began his career in Japanese television, where he worked as an assistant director and director for renowned police drama series, as well as director and producer for television film projects.

 

In 2004, he pursued further studies at the USC School of Cinematic Arts in the United States, focusing on directing techniques and commercial production. During his time in the U.S., his works received accolades at film festivals.

 

In 2014, Uchikata became independent, serving as Senior Show Director at Universal Studios Japan, where he directed original concepts for Halloween Horror Nights. He also became the lead director of the live-action drama series "Aibou" (Tokyo detective  Duo), one of Japan’s most popular television shows. Additionally, Uchikata directed the most live-action projects and series for WOWOW, a network known for producing some of the highest-quality live-action content in Japan. For his outstanding work, he was awarded the WOWOW Creators’ Award in 2022.

 

In 2024, he served as planner, producer, and director for the Hulu series "The Decagon House Murders", which won the Domestic Drama Grand Prix and received Hulu’s highest honor, the Platinum Award.

 

Uchikata’s meticulous attention to visuals and sound has led to comparisons with Ridley Scott and David Fincher. He continues to be highly regarded both as a producer and director, achieving recognition for his exceptional contributions to the film and television industry.
